Adult Swim (stylized as [adult swim]) is a Philippine television channel that is based on the American programming block of the same name. It was first launched as a block on Jack TV from 2006 until 2016. It is owned and operated by MediaQuest Holdings, under a brand licensing agreement with WarnerMedia. It is only available as a channel on Cignal and it airs from 8:00pm to 6:00am (8:00am to 6:00am during April Fools Day).

History[]

As a programming block on Jack TV (2006-2016)[]

Adult Swim Philippines was first launched on April 5, 2006 at 10:30pm as a programming block on Jack TV under the name "Adult Swim on Jack TV". The first program to air on the programming block was The Boondocks' episode "A Huey Christmas."

During the beginning, the block only aired original programming, such as 12 oz. Mouse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Home Movies, Robot Chicken, Squidbillies, and The Venture Bros, due to rights issues. However in the later years, some of the animated programs that were aired on the channel were moved to the block (such as Allen Gregory, Futurama, King of The Hill, and The Cleveland Show). In addition to that, the block aired a select number of anime shows from 2007 until 2013. Some of the shows include Blood+, FLCL, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eureka Seven, Paranoia Agent, and Samurai Champloo. The block was notable for airing in a schedule that was similar to the US version of the channel, albeit the majority of the acquired programming were substituted with its original programming. Premieres of new episodes or shows were shown on the same day as the United States.

On September 5, 2016 at 6:00am, Adult Swim on Jack TV stopped broadcasting after 10 years on air. The last program to air on the block was Live Forever as You Are Now with Alan Resnick. The block's closure was caused by Solar (the owner of Jack TV) for not renewing the contract with Turner to air Adult Swim programming upon its expiration.

As a TV channel on Cignal (2018-present)[]

Adult Swim was launched in the Philippines for the second time as an exclusive channel to Cignal subscribers on April 9, 2018 at 8:00pm. The channel began airing in a 16:9 high-definition format (as opposed to the 4:3 standard definition aspect ratio during the Adult Swim on Jack TV era). It airs original shows (such as 12 oz. Mouse, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Home Movies, Robot Chicken, Rick and Morty, Squidbillies, The Eric Andre Show, and The Venture Bros), as well as reruns of older shows and a select number of anime shows under the Anime on Adult Swim block.

Staring in 2019, the channel began simulcasting its April Fools pranks from the United States feed. However, premieres of new episodes or shows are shown on the same day of broadcast in the United States (without cuts), but not simulcasted. During simulcasts, commercials and promos from the United States feed are replaced with local commercials and promos instead (the only instance where the channel ran promos from the US feed was during April Fools 2021, also known as the Adult Swim Jr. stunt).

Branding[]

Note: This section will only be focused on non-text bumps.

Jack TV era[]

During the block's launch in 2006 until 2011, it used the "Still Image" bumps. While the bumpers are the same as the ones that were aired in the United States, some of the bumps that are associated with a show that didn't or never aired on the block (e.g. InuYasha and Trigun), were not aired. Some of the sign-off bumpers that were shown during the Still Image era includes "The Dawn is Your Enemy," "We'd Like To See You Try," "Adult Swim Is Your Friend," and "Last Chance Saloon." From 2011 until 2014, the channel aired set of "random" bumpers.

From 2014 until the block's final airing on September 5, 2016, the channel began to use the "Find The Logo" bumpers. Instead of using the "Atlanta" sign-off, the "Adult Swim Is Your Friend" and "The Dawn is Your Enemy" were used instead.

Adult Swim Philippines era[]

Since the channel's launch on April 9, 2018, the channel uses the "Find The Logo" bumpers.

Since March 29, 2019, it uses the Darkstar variant of the "Atlanta" sign-off. Prior to this, the channel used the "Adult Swim Is Your Friend" and "The Dawn is Your Enemy" sign-offs.
