On June 18, 2015, Air El Kadsre Flight 78, a Sukhoi Superjet 100, registration EK103456, flying from Wats Kayos Field in Wats, El Kadsre to Cyril E. King Airport in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, accidentally landed at Pegasus Airpark in Queen Creek, Arizona, U.S. when the crew intended to land in Phoenix, Arizona, U.S. at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport due to an error made by the pilot.

The crew subsequently received compliments from the airline community for managing to land and take off from the 5,000 ft × 80 ft (1,524 m × 24 m) single runway without much difficulty.

Aircraft and crew

The airplane involved was EK103456, a Sukhoi Superjet 100 delivered in 2014 to Air El Kadsre.

The cockpit crew included:

  • Captain Jim Arita from Wats, El Kadsre worked with Prokhor Azanchevsky on the flight. A veteran pilot, Jim was 60 at the time of the incident and was planning his retirement.
  • First Officer Prokhor Azanchevsky from Volchansk, Russia was on loan from Aeroflot and flew 78 as one of his last flights before being handed back to Aeroflot. He was 34 years old at the time of the incident.
  • Flight Engineer Ronald Scotti Freeman from El Kadsre City, El Kadsre, the 29-year old flight engineer who had completed training two days prior.
