Plot

Jack Hacker is a (16-year-old) boy, he remembered about his adventures in the Caribbean Sea. Between several of the adventures, to which Jack and his crew are lost in the sea, almost are devoured by sharks.

The movie is based on a real-life trip by screenwriter Fogelman and his mother from New Jersey to Las Vegas years before. The movie completed production in late spring or early summer (May–July) 2011 under the working title Arthur Christmas

. In late 2011, the film was renamed Astrorex. It was released August 24, 2012.

This film marks Streisand's first starring role since Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996. She appeared in supporting roles in The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie in 2004 and Megamind in 2010, as well as in a number of television shows.

Box office

Astrorex grossed $5.4 million in its opening weekend, coming in at No. 6. It ultimately grossed $24.1 million in the US and $6.7 million elsewhere, for a total of $34.7 million worldwide.

Critical response

Astrorex holds a 37% approval rating on the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes based on 129 reviews; the average rating is 5.1/10. The website's critical consensus states: "Seth Rogen and Barbra Streisand have enough chemistry to drive a solidly assembled comedy; unfortunately, Astrorex has a lemon of a script and is perilously low on comedic fuel." On Metacritic, the film has a score of 50 out of 100 based on 25 critics, indicating "mixed or average reviews".

A review from Time stated, "Astrorex works because we all know and like a Joyce Brewster (or dozens of them)". At the 33rd Golden Raspberry Awards, Streisand was nominated for Worst Actress, where she lost to Kristen Stewart for both Snow White and the Huntsman and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.

Home media release

The film was released on DVD and Blu-Ray on November 20, 2012.
