Bangin' on the Beat is a song by Swedish singer and songwriter Jenny, featuring her brother, rapper Captain V. It was released as the second Swedish and US/Canada single from the album in 1996. It was Jenny's debut single in the UK. The track topped the charts in Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Ireland, Germany, and France, and peaked in the US at no. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (being Jenny's highest-charting Top 10 single in the US at that point), in Canada at no. 4 on the RPM Top Singles chart, and in the UK at no. 6 on the UK Singles Chart.
Background[]
Denniz Pop originally was looking into having Jenny cover The Shamen's hit "Ebeneezer Goode", however One Little Indian Records denied the licensing of the song to Cheiron Studios due to the song's themes of drug use. Jenny and her brother Captain V volunteered to write a replacement song, and Jenny and Captain V wrote the first draft for "Bangin' on the Beat" over the course of two hours one evening, with Denniz Pop, Max Martin and Per Magnusson contributing additional lyrics the next morning.
