The Barnum Export Awards are accolades bestowed by the 105 members of the Barnum Export Recognition Association. They are given to people in TV, film, music, theater, video games, web media, and literature who have had major success internationally. For television, the awards rival the Emmys in international prestige.

History

The awards were named after P. T. Barnum. The first ceremony was held in 1988 in Los Angeles at the Wiltern Theatre, and was broadcast live to various (mostly independent) TV stations in the United States and Canada.

The 2008 ceremony was held at Music Hall at Fair Park in Dallas, marking only the second time in the ceremony's then-20-year history that it was held outside of the New York City or Los Angeles areas (the 1995 ceremony was held at Disney's Hollywood Studios (then Disney-MGM Studios) in Florida). The 2009 ceremony was held on March 26 outside Dallas at The Studios at Las Colinas. The 2010 show was held again in Dallas at the Majestic Theatre. The 2011 ceremony was held live on March 17 at the St. George Theatre in New York City.
