Olaf Charle Vikström (born February 5, 1962), also known by his stage name Captain V, is a Swedish rapper, songwriter and musician best known as the hype man, rapper and main co-songwriter for Swedo-Finnish electronica act Twelve. He later founded an industrial/nu-metal-driven side project, V-Squad, in 1998. He has also appeared on other artists' works such as Violet Stars' hit "Set Me Free" (produced by Twelve's most frequent producer, Kåre Berrefjord).
Early life[]
Captain V was born Olaf Charle Vikström at Saint Göran Hospital in Kungsholmen, Stockholm, the first of three children. His younger sister, Jennifer Karola Vikström, is a pop singer known by the mononym Jenny. Contrary to popular belief, Captain V has stated that there has never been a sibling rivalry between him and his sister, neither personally nor musically.
Career[]
In 1991, he was invited to join Twelve by co-founder Nils Åkerström. The idea of having to move to the Åland Islands did not sit well with him, and said he would join only if the band would relocate from Mariehamn to his native Stockholm. In order to secure Captain V's talent, Twelve relocated to Solna and hired the management agency Siljemark Promotion AB, who also managed Dr. Alban and Ace of Base.
Captain V has performed rap portions on some of his sister Jenny's songs, including her 1996 hit "Bangin' on the Beat".
