Channel 1 is a Nalteresian free-to air television channel owned and operated by Channel 1 Holdings, a part of Nalteresian Broadcasting Service (NBS). Its programming consists of television news programs, soap opera shows, sitcoms, entertainment programs, movies, and television series in English.

Channel 1 became the most viewed television channels in Nalteresia in 1999 according to Ministry of Television, with the entire monthly viewers of 15 million. The headquarters is currently located at Central Business District, Thomastown. Channel 1 also has a sister channels, Channel K1, Channel 1Xtra, Channel 1Seven, Channel 1C, and Channel 1 Nalteresia. However, the channel is funded with television license fee together with other Channel 1 channels.

History

1944-Foundation

Channel 1 was founded and launched by the Nalteresian Government in August 2nd 1944. It was the first television channel to be launched in Nalteresia. Regular broadcasts commenced in August 3rd 1944, came the first airing of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, a station ID. Technical problems started from September 7th 1944 to September 8th 1944 due to the quality of the sound. NBS wanted Channel 1 to be clear more viewers all across the country. The first television stations, HNTU-TV (registered in Thomastown) and HNKI-TV (Registered in Kionne) were introduced.

The channel had a limited coverage of Nalteresia due to lack of Television transmitters that covered 65% of Nalteresia's population. In 1952, Ministry of Television member, Maria Andersen planned to build more TV Transmitter to cover 100% of Nalteresia's population and areas. All of NBS's channels became a part of European Broadcasting Union (EBU).
