Cliffhanger is a steel dive coaster located at Alex McCufferty's Wonderworld in Camberley, England. It opened on June 4th, 2012 and is based on the main villain of Twinsanity 2, named "Boervund". At a speed of 70 mph, it is considered the 4th fastest coaster in the UK, behind The Big One at Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Stealth and Hyperia, the latter of which is located at Thorpe Park. It is also promoted as the "tallest and fastest dive coaster in Europe" in TV adverts and signs posted around the ride.
In 2017, the ride's trains were replaced with ones that had B&M's vest restraints, in an attempt to provide a more comfortable experience for the rider.
Ride experience[]
Pre-show[]
Once the guests have reached the end of the que-line, the ride attendants will lead them into the pre-show area consisting of a front desk, a large television and an animatronic of Boervund himself (voiced by Sharlto Copley). He tells the guests to come aside and to stop "fidgeting" around. Once the doors have closed, Boervund introduces himself and talks about his facility, it's creations and so on, while projecting them on a display. However, the television signal gets hijacked by an unknown spokesperson (voiced by Eugene Khumbanyiwa) for a group called the "People's Revolutionary Front", preaching about Boervund's atrocities and crimes commited across the world, but Boervund shuts off the connection before they could speak anymore. He later tells them that what the group said was "a whole lot of kak" and that they wanted to ruin his reputation. The automatic doors leading to the loading bay opens and he tells riders to move out.
While in the loading station, Boervund tells them about where to stand, how to board the ride vehicle, where to place their loose belongings, how to put on their restraint and other safety information. When a green light flashes above the three doors, the doors open up and guests board the vehicle in a timely matter, placing any loose belongings near the exit in marked cages (A, B, C, D).
Main ride[]
Once all the riders are strapped in and all safety checks have passed, the floor lowers beneath the riders, the sliding doors open in front of the rider and an alarm sounds in the station. The train then dispatches into a dark section inside a mechanized area, with a detailed set of machines and other things. Boervund is seen on a display talking to the riders about their plunge, but the rebel group interrupts him before he could speak any more, saying that the riders need to get out of his fortress as soon as possible as they are planning to cripple the electrical systems from within. An electrical sound is heard and the lights flicker, causing the train to go up the lift hill and a sliding hatch from above to open automatically. once the train reaches up to the top, Boervund tells the riders not to worry as he is trying to fight back the rebels. The train stops at the 92 degree drop before plunging down 40 metres down a dark, smoke-filled tunnel and into an Immelmann loop, It then goes into a Zero-G Roll and a few large turns before heading into an heartline roll and the final brake run. Boervund managed to fend off the hijackers and that he managed to get the ride vehicles under control. He later tells the guests that once the train stops in the stations and the floors raise above, they must exit to their left and collect their belongings. Once the train does all of the above, the guests would follow his instructions and exit into a gift shop themed to the ride itself.
