Daniel Gregory Emerson (born September 14, 1937) is a South African-born Canadian singer-songwriter, music producer and comedian, known for his Billboard/RPM chart-topping hit "Don't Forget About Me", as well as comedic hits such as "Newfoundland Railway Engineer" and "Chicken Soup".

Early life[]

Emerson was born on September 14, 1937 in Krugersdorp in South Africa's Gauteng province. Emerson's family relocated to Canada in 1941, first settling in Toronto before relocating to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1948. While attending Queen Elizabeth High School, he formed his first band, a celtic music band named The Longshoremen.

At the age of 19, he signed to RCA Limited, and released the single "Talking About the Weather".
