Synopsis

Main article: List of Dark · Light characters

On the fictional island of Crystal roam demon-like creatures called Dark. A team of humans—known as the Light and officialy known as the Light Warriors—fight Dark and save mankind.

Conception

Mashi Eruba conceptualized Dark · Light after drawing pictures of demons and hanging them all over his walls. He took down one drawing and called it "Dark".

Two years later, Mashi posted an image of the demon attacking a man online, naming the man "Sushō".

Soon, Eruba turned the image into a one-shot comic called Otoko tai akuma (男対悪魔, lit. Man versus Devil).

Original net animation

On 30 June 2016, Peninsula Group announced on Twitter that a ten-episode original net animation (ONA) anime series based on Dark · Light was in development. The series was going to be an adaptation of volumes 1 to 12 of the web manga, with a few series-only character additions.

On 13 October 2016, 20 October 2016, and 27 October 2016, three trailers were posted on Peninsula Group's website, respectively.

Unlike the web manga, which was aimed at adults with its violent content, the anime was going to be aimed more at teens, censoring some graphic violence. However, the uses of "F" word were going to be left uncensored, thusly causing a controversial conflict over whether the series was for teens or adults.

The original net animation was posted on Peninsula Group's website and on YouTube from 28 December 2016 to 27 February 2017.

FanPizza made an uncensored English version the series available on their service on 30 January 2018, deciding that the series would be rated TV-MA for "strong bloody violence, strong language, and nudity".

The series was distributed on DVD on 3 June 2018 by Peninsula Group.
