Diep Giang (September 1, 1977 - May 15, 2005) was a Vietnamese Brazilian singer & actress.
Biography[]
Diep's family are Hoa people. They were among a group of boat people that came to Brazil in February 1979, when Diep was 3 years old.
In 1986, Diep was signed to Rede Horizonte's talent pool after a talent agent spotted her singing at a Tết celebration. The following year, at the age of 11, she was made a member of Filhotes, and performed for 6 years with the group. She left the band in 1993 at the age of 17, citing her age and the Show da Filhotes fire.
Diep then appeared as Melissa Ariga in Tik-Tak-Tok from 1996-2005. She also released four solo albums with Gravações Wágner.
On May 15, 2005, Diep, suffering from depression, committed suicide in her car in the CDT Horizonte parking lot. Studio 12 of CDT Horizonte was renamed Estudio Diep Giang in her honour. Per Diep's will, her character of Melissa Ariga was recast with Eduarda Iria Fujimori, with the change of actress being explained as the result of plastic surgery. Fujimori played the role until Ariga was written off in 2009.
