History
The channel was first broadcasting on February 6, 2008. This was highly controversial at the time, as it was considered close to a breach of commercial-free principles that the new station did not reach all viewers. Adding to the critics' cause was the fact that EYE Network did, in fact, have broadband spectrum available for terrestrial broadcasts. However, this was being reserved for digital broadcasting tests. The less-than-100%-coverage coupled with a "highbrow" reputation resulted in low ratings which in turn earned it the nickname "the secret channel" to the regret of the director general who had been pushing the line "my channel" (in the sense of programmes appealing to individuals, not the whole family as EYE TV1 supposedly).
Programs
It most resembles the Channel 2 Vicnora, El TV Kadsre 2, STN 2 Sentan, Treet TV2 Mahri, ATS Two Alexonia, Netflix, PBS United States, Adult Swim, BBC Two UK, TVNZ 1 New Zealand and ABC Australia in that its main output is experimental comedy, satire, drama, education, arts, documentaries and in-depth news programmes. It has earned much praise for high quality shows, especially in the first category, with series like Rolling and The 11th Time was a talk show on the channel. It also broadcasts many British productions, e.g. crime dramas such as Prime Suspect. It also broadcasts cartoons such as South Park, Courage The Cowardly Dog, The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, Family Guy, The Cyanide and Happiness Show, Invader Zim, MAD and Robot Chicken.
Every Saturday EYE TV2 broadcasts the Japanese language news bulletin News in Alexonia produced by AHT Alexonia and news bulletin News in Japan produced by NHK in Japan.
