The Flag of the Magnusstat state, unofficially known as the Bläsvertsen (Ostlandic: the Black and blue), is a bi-color of four rectangles, clockwise alternating between blue and black. The upper-right black rectangle features a set of five pale stars above the state's Coat of Arms. It was designed by his majesty Erno of Ostland, first King of Ostland, and it was made effective on the state's establishment day, on 1 February 1927.

Background

Inspiration

Ernest Benshoffen, better known as Erno of Ostland, was the first ruler King of Ostland after its independence from Norway in 1806. A strategist and politician, he received training in Prussia and France before returning to Keiserligeprovins Ostlandet, Ostland under Norwegian rule. In 1778, Benshoffen assumed charge of the Ostlandic Liberation Forces, the first organized independentist forces against the Norwegian, and his father, Henry Benshoffen, was intended to assume the throne as the King. Yet he died in battle in 1801 and Ernest took the lead. He devised the first Ostlandic Resistance flag, consisting on a blue cross over a black background.

This flag was devised by Ernest among other members of the OLF and is meant to be an antithesis to the Dano-Norwegian: Black and blue instead of red and white. This combination can be swiped without it changing its meaning. This flag was titled "the Core of Ostland".

Creation of the 'Black and Blue'

The Magnusstat region was devised to represent the "core of Ostland", a striking region of cultural and economic importance in the country and internationally. Erno revisited the original two-striped black and blue flag used by the Ostlandic Resistance in 1776, rotated it counterclockwise and added another pavilion, rotated clockwise. He also added a set of 5 stars above of the newly-created Coat of Arms of the region, based on the extinct Principalty of Richenfelt's.
