A food hub is an independent establishment that serves light food. They originated from Kuboia in the mid and late 1990s.

A typical food hub is located inside another public premise such as a school, library or shopping centre. They are usually only open two or three days a week during the morning and early afternoon, with the premise that they take place in being used for other purposes on other days. According to Kuboia's official website, the average food hub is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 4:00a.m. to 2:00p.m., although they do not have to follow these guidelines to be recognised as a food hub.
Food hubs differ from cafes and restaurants in that guests do not necessarily pay for service, but instead provide donations upon entering. This offers a cheaper alternative compared to cafes/restaurants, though the food is also generally much lower quality because of this. Staff are usually volunteers or part of a school programme which teaches children about hospitality.
