Gales LeWang International Airport (IATA: GLW, ICAO: PYUK) (了王蓋國際機場; Lewánggài Guójìjīchǎng), colloquially Uryangken Airport, is the primary international airport serving Uryangken, Xiang. It is located at the Xinhua saoge of the LeWang District. It was formerly the main airport of the then Toralaq Republic.
It is the third busiest airport in YinYangia in international passengers, and the largest in passenger cargo. Around 2.4 million tons of cargo arrived at Gales LeWang Airport in 2019.
History[]
The airport was founded on November 12, 1946, after the city of Feederet was almost finished. Constructions started on November 15, 1946, but was topped out three months later. It later resumed on June 1947 and was finished on December 1950. It was opened on January 1, 1951, and Air Toralaq moved its headquarters near the airport.
It was officially known as Feederet Airport until 1956 when the airport was renamed to the Aeroport of the Capital of the Toralaq Socialist People's Republic (Belkofaarhaki Uzurhaki Tworkistiqaksosalizeti Bakarwerefoblecca; BUTB). It was later renamed to Awrahem Thar Airport after his death in 1962.
It started serving international flights to the Eastern Bloc countries and China in 1965, as a part of rapid development of the Toralaq Republic. It was temporarily closed after the 7776 Revolution. The airport resumed operations as Uryangken Capital Airport in 1982. After the death of the former mayor of Uryangken, Gales LeWang, in 1993, the airport was renamed to Gales LeWang International Airport to pay tributes.
After the dissolution of the Toralaq Republic, the Dau Muliuden Airport became the main airport of YinYangia. The airport still retained its 1993 name, and was renovated in 2003.
