Geo is a platform video game based on the series of the same name, developed by Point of View, Inc. and published by Geo LTD. Interactive. The game was first released for PlayStation and Sega Saturn on December 2, 1996, and then on Nintendo 64 as Geo 64 and released on Feburary 12, 1997. it was ported to Game Boy Color and Greeny Arcade on March 9, 1999. It was then re-released as Geo Deluxe (Geo Remix in Europe and Japan) worldwide on June 10, 2003 for PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube. In July 2009, the PlayStation version was released on PlayStation Network for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable, alongside with Geo 2: Gree's Revenge and Geo 3: Teamwork Action, as well as the N64 version was released on the Wii Virtual Console.
Geo was developed by Point of View, Inc. and directed and designed by the Geo series creator Geo G. In 1994, Geo LTD. Interactive started working on a 3D Geo game for the PlayStation and the Sega Saturn. The game was first shown at E3 1996. It was originally going to be developed and published by Geo LTD. Interactive, but Point of View took over the developer of the game and Geo LTD. Interactive only published the game.
The Nintendo 64 version of the game was announced by Geo LTD. Interactive on December 27, 1996 under the title Geo 64. The Nintendo 64 version features improved graphics.
The game marked the debut of the Geo engine by Point of View Inc. A modified version of the engine was used for "Balls"' GeoBob Engine, Nintendo's Zelda Wind Waker Engine, Epic Games as Unreal Engine, by Criterion Software as RenderWare and by Gamebryo and EA's Frostbite.
