Hillsborough (Chinese: 山堡市; pinyin: Shānbǎo Shì) formerly: 希爾斯伯勒市; Xī ěr sī bó lēi shì) is a city in Tseng City-Capital, Tseng. With a population of 1,138,721 as of 2020, it is Tseng's fourth largest city. It is considered to be a satellite city of Tseng City, located directly north of Hillsborough.
History[]
Hillsborough was founded on February 21, 1769. It was named after Wills Hill, Earl of Hillsborough, the Secretary of State for the Colonies from 1768 to 1772.
In 1893, the town was upgraded to a city. In 1982, the Chinese name for the city changed from 希爾斯伯勒, the transliteration of the name 'Hillsborough' to 山堡 (Shānbǎo), which was the Japanese name for the city (Yamaho) while Tseng was under Japanese occupation.
At the time of its founding Hillsborough was located a long way from Port Elizabeth (today's Tseng City), but the two cities boundaries grew closer and closer until 1990, when the cities bordered each other. Because of Tseng City's superior status, there have been talks to annex Hillsborough. However, many people are against it, because the cost of living in Hillsborough is lower than Tseng City, along with substantial economic activity.

Hillsborough is located in the Capital Valley. Farmland surrounds the city.
Transportation[]
Three highways serve Hillsborough. The A2 highway, the Hillsborough-Longtan Expressway, and the Hillsborough-Yuanxiao Highway.
Hillsborough does not have a metro, but construction of a metro system has begun. As of 2023 however, there is only an airport rail link of the Tseng City Metro that goes through the city.
The airport serving Hillsborough is Hillsborough Shanbao Airport (in Chinese, this is simply called "Shanbao Airport").
Politics[]
The current mayor of Hillsborough is Li Shan-wang (NPP). Most people in Hillsborough are pro-NPP.
