Houshang Firouzja (Persian: هوشنگ فیروزجا; born April 12, 1992) is a professional footballer who currently plays for Latikuu Edacra Wingers FC in the El Kadsreian Premier League. Born in Iran and now holding Argentine citizenship, he has previously played for Boston Beacons F.C. and Workers F.C.

Boston Beacons[]

In 2015, Firouzja joined Boston Beacons F.C. of the US Premier League. In May 2016, he received a 6-month suspension for kicking the ball against a referee.

Workers F.C.[]

On June 1, 2018, Firouzja joined El Kadsreian Premier League side Workers F.C..

Latikuu Edacra Wingers FC[]

On April 11, 2019, Firouzja moved to Latikuu Edacra Wingers FC midway through their season.

International career[]

He made his international debut for Iran in an May 2011 friendly match against Kuwait and has earned a total of 3 caps, scoring 1 goal.

He participated in qualifying matches for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and played in games against South Korea and Uzbekistan before defecting in Qatar.

Defection from Iran[]

In June 2013, during the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifications, Firouzja reportedly left the hotel in Doha, Qatar where the Iranian team were staying, and did not return to the set-up for the match against the Qatari team, instead going to the embassy of Argentina, where he asked for asylum. He settled in La Plata, where his sister and cousins have lived since fleeing the country following the 2009 protests, and acquired an Argentine refugee travel document. He subsequently renounced his Iranian citizenship, and in December 2013 acquired Argentine citizenship.
