"I Do" is a single by Kuboian rapper and television presenter Amy-Elizabeth, serving as the third single from her self-titled debut studio album. The song features vocals from fellow Kuboian television personality and singer Ericka Streets. Amy-Elizabeth and Streets co-wrote the song with Chloe Wallace and Mike P. Morrison, whom also produced the track. It was released as a physical single on 31st October 2006 before being released digitally on 5th November that year. The song debuted at the top of the Karuboia charts, giving Amy-Elizabeth her third consecutive number-one single.

Background[]

Amy-Elizabeth and Streets met at the end of 2005 and eventually started co-presenting Tiny Vision together. When discussing Amy-Elizabeth's single "Grow Up Girl" in an interview, Streets said "Yes, I will definitely be making a song with her."

According to Amy-Elizabeth, "I Do" had already been mostly completed before Wallace gave her the song, as Streets had already written a chorus, pre-chorus and bridge. Amy-Elizabeth explained "Well, Chloe let me listen to a demo of the song which had Ericka singing and some instrumental bits which were supposed to be where my bits would go in. She said 'Would you like this song?' and I honestly just said 'Yeah? Why not?' I knew Ericka wanted to be on the album and I didn't want to let her down."

Music and lyrics[]

A lipstick rap song with influence from teen pop, dance-pop, pop punk and power pop, "I Do" is in the key of G minor and has a tempo of 95 beats per minute. Lyrically, the song is about society coming together despite previous shortcomings. Whilst Amy-Elizabeth raps two verses, Ericka Streets performs the song's chorus, pre-chorus and bridge.

Critical reception[]

In a mixed review, a Digital Spy critic awarded the song a three out of five stars praising the "Avril Lavinge-like" instrumental and citing the chorus as very catchy but felt that Amy-Elizabeth felt more like a guest artist on her own song noting "The song is about 75% Ericka and 25% Amy." In a retrospective interview in 2018, Amy-Elizabeth admitted that Streets seemed to "overtake" the song citing "Ericka... She really liked to be the star even when she was supposed to be the guest singer. It's something you kind of had to accept if you wanted to work with her."

Alternative versions[]

In April 2007, Wallace self-released a remix of the song which omits Amy-Elizabeth's vocals in favour of two rap verses of her own. A solo version of the song by Streets, "I Do (Ericka's Ver.)", is available on her album [TBA]. This version features two rap verses performed by Streets herself.
