On March 2, 2008, Michael and Cary Huang created Jacknjellify Productions. The two began working on a new animated television series, calling it Dream Island and pitching it to Cartoon Network soon after. However, they rejected the idea, calling it "too much". They took the idea to Cartoon Network's sister channel, TBS, and TBS approved of it. The show was renamed to Battle for Dream Island.
