Jean-Robert Gilliéron (April 19, 1968 - January 15, 2017) was a Canadian voice actor who was best known for voicing the character Matthias for the Québécois versions of the various Redwall media for nearly a decade.

Life[]

Jean-Robert was born in Saint Pierre and Miquelon but moved to Montreal, Quebec, Canada as a child. When he was 18 years old, he briefly worked at Gibeau Orange Julep but after being impressed by the performances in The Breakfast Club he applied to be an actor with Ici Radio-Canada Télé in 1987. He wanted to have a role in a téléroman, but instead applied for a role in Le Programme de Paul Taylor. He performed the role of Jean-Robert, the counterpart to the original It's the Paul Taylor Program! character Robbie.

In 2000, Jean-Robert began voicing Matthias in the Canadian French dub of Redwall. His continuous involvement with Redwall has made him a favorite among Québécois fans of the franchise.

Jean-Robert died at the age of 48 on January 15, 2017 in Montreal at Hôpital Maisonneuve-Rosemont. He was known to be suffering from diabetes. His last work was the Canadian French dub of the Redwall: Under Seige miniseries, which had already been broadcast in Quebec by Télétoon by that time. François Castex took over the role of Matthias.
