The 1986 network version of Jeopardy! is a going to be a stripped-down version of a syndicated show produced by Merv Griffin Enterprises, and it was planned as a choice to replace Search for Tomorrow on NBC, the other was Wordplay.

However, instead of Alex Trebek, which is participating in the soon-to-be Classic Concentration, Jim Caldwell, fresh off from Tic-Tac-Dough is tapped on to host the network version of Jeopardy!.

A pitch film was made on October 14, 1986, but the network version of J! was never made past pitch film stage.
