Jukebox Records Kmkt, often referred as Jukebox, is a Ostlandic entertainment corporation and record label under the Ostlandic law. Its headquarters are located in Nordostat. It is the biggest music label in Ostland.
History[]
Early history[]
In November 1992, Jan Martesen signed a contract with a small record label in Nordostat, Jukebox Musikk, to pursue his musical career. Martesen left his past label, Magnus Records, after they cancelled his debut album.
Jukebox supported Martesen to release the material that Magnus rejected before, they had to re-record the songs since the masters where under their property.
On 14 May 1993, Jukebox released Martesen's debut album "Ratellser frä sparken mann" (Stories of a fired man), expressing his dissatisfaction with the music industry, and mostly with his past label.
The album featured soft rock, r&b and pop sounds, with elements of hip-hop and metal, which was a very innovative mix, never heard in the Ostlandic music scene. The album received wide critic acclamation and success, being the first album under the label to hit the Top 10 of OOH Albums charts, peaking at number two in June. This was the very first hit by the label.
2003: Consolidation[]
In 2001, Martesen become the second most important shareholder from the label at that time, by acquiring 30%. Martesen led the company to a proccess of renovation and rebranding for the brand to be no longer associated as an underground label for indie artists. In September 2001, ballad singer and sensation of a generation, Enver Gromsö, signed with the label, being of the most important artists under the label to the day.
In 2002, Martesen reunited with shareholders and executives of Universal Music Group in Los Angeles, California, and agreed to merge the label's division in the country, Universal Musikgrupp Ostland, with Jukebox, keeping the name of Jukebox for the new corporation.
