Lighthouse is a single by American rock band Deep Sea. It was released in September 1977 as the third single off the band's self-titled debut studio album.

Background

Lighthouse was recorded in 1976, and was supposed to be the first song off the album, but its release got delayed so other songs could get released. It has since became a concert staple for the band.

Two versions of the song exist: one version has three long guitar solos, the third and final of which plays at the end of the song. The guitar solos are removed on the second version of the song, which is usually the one that plays on radio stations.

Louise Keys version

Kuboian rapper Louise Keys covered the song as her debut single after placing second place in the third series of Nick Karaoke Stars. Released on 4th March, 2005, Louise's cover of the song contains three newly-written rap verses. The cover features singer Tyl Friskee singing the chorus (which is mostly unchanged from the original version of the song) and musician Skippy Peters of Firepower performing the guitar instruments on the song.

Louise wrote her rap verses in 2003 - she performed an early version of the cover at a local talent show in December that year. She later performed it again for her audition for Nick Karaoke Stars in June 2004. The members of Deep Sea were initially hesitant at allowing the cover to be released, but after listening to the final version, some of the members admitted to preferring Louise's cover over their own original version.

Louise's cover of the song peaked at number one on the Karuboia charts on 11th March, 2005, but only stayed at the top of the charts for one week (the death of Aourine Esthers caused her songs to re-chart, which caused Lighthouse to fall down to number 9). Outside of Kuboia, the song charted moderately, reaching the top 40 in Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands. Although the song only peaked at number 67 in the United Kingdom, it remained on said chart for 21 weeks. The cover was certified Platinum by the KSR in 2007.
