MNT48 (said as "Mont-forty-eight") is a Canadian idol group headquartered in and named after Montreal, Quebec. It was launched in 2016 as the first North American spinoff group of AKB48. The group performs at the MNT48 Theater (Théâtre MNT48) at Stade Vidéotron. The group is a joint-venture between AKS and DHX Media and are promoted as "Canadian idols you can meet". The group performs English and French versions of songs by AKB48 and it's sister groups. They are signed to Audiogram.
The formation of MNT48 was announced in a surprise press conference in June 2015 held outside the Montreal Biodome.
2016[]
In April, the group's first music video, a bilingual cover of "Skirt, Hirari", had it's world debut on Much. The center performers were Rhonda Straßburger and Alexa Françoise Jones.
