MTVU originally launched a digital subchannel on virtual channel 2.2 in 2008, as an affiliate of the Spanish-language network LATV, which moved to a subchannel of MOFY in 2019. This subchannel later affiliated with Fox Weather in January 2022.
Analog-to-digital conversion[]
MTVU shut down its analog signal, over VHF channel 2, on June 12, 2009, as part of the federally mandated transition from analog to digital television. The station's digital signal was relocated from its pre-transition UHF channel 56, which was among the high band UHF channels (52–69) that were removed from broadcasting use as a result of the transition, to UHF channel 44 (the allocation previously occupied by MKCW's analog signal), using PSIP to display MTVU's virtual channel as 2 on digital television receivers.
