Marvin the Unstoppable Spy-Hound is an American animated series that serves as a sequel series to the film, Marvin the Unstoppable Spy-Hound in "The Mess that Took Over New Hampshire" by Zaara and Jakub Samara. It premiered on RKO Network and was aimed at a more mature audience compared to other cartoons at the time.
Produced by Blue-Jay Cartoons and distributed by United Artists Television, it aired from February 7, 1969 to December 19, 1971, with a grand total of 65 episodes. The series was remarketed for kids when reruns began on RKO KidShow in 1992 to 1996, but returned to its original market base when Cartoon Network aired the series as part of the initial Adult Swim lineup in 2001. The series and its preceding film would span the Marvin the Unstoppable Spy-Hound franchise.
Premise[]
After the events of the first film, Marvin is tasked into stopping less threatening villains as a result of the amount of injuries he gained during said film. However, he is still incompetent and under experienced and thus, has to use his bizarre and cartoony powers to use.
Characters[]
Main article: Characters in the Marvin the Unstoppable Spy-Hound franchise
- Marvin (Aaron McDowell) - An incompetent and lunatic, but kind-hearted gray wolf who is the son of a famous cartoon star. Because of that, he is born with supernatural powers such as be ing able to carry objects that are heavier than him or surviving a deadly occurrence with no injuries. He is the lead spy under the Kathurian government, despite his inexperience.
- General Chandler (Daws Butler) - An overly serious and somewhat paranoid cheetah, he is Marvin's boss and head of the Kathuria's crime and justice department. Throughout the series, he has a love/hate relationship towards Marvin. He is famously noted to be one of the first postively portayed LGBTQ characters in animation being a homosexual albeit vaguely.
- Johnny (Mel Blanc) - A deranged and idiotic but charming red fox who often joins Marvin in missions. He serves as the comic relief of the series but is seen as obnoxious by Marvin presumably out of jealousy, as Marvin acts similar to Johnny on various occasions.
- King Chester (Hal Smith) - The African wild dog king of the kingdom of Kathuria. Despite being as weird as the rest of the characters, he tends to be the most logical and well-minded of the main cast, often being the voice of reason and is the most skeptical towards Kathuria's crime and justice department.
- Skars (Mel Blanc in most episodes; Daws Butler in one episode) - The main villain from the first film. He is an over-the-top coyote with a large ego, but is sympathetic of others. He often returns to taunt and mock Marvin and to lesser extent Johnny and distract them from their missions.
- Jameela (Tina Arnaz) - Skars' golden jackal wife. She evokes stereotypical "femme-fatale" attributes, such as seducing men and being rather flirtatious. However, she is noted to be clingy, often being seen with Skars even if he doesn't want her to be with him and being somewhat of a nuisance at times.
