Nordostat (spelled in Ostlandic as Nordøstat) is the capital and most populous city in Ostland. It represents the political, economic and cultural center of the country. Nordostat is located in the northeast region of Styrøe, and has an estimated population of 3 045 756 as 2022.

A economic, cultural and cientific of global importance and a megacity, Nordostat is the highest populated city among the Nordic countries, doubling the population of Stockholm's urban area and the city with the busiest airport in the region, the NordOst International Airport.

Nordostat lies north of the Gronnven Forest and was established originally eastside of the Vannfuss river. However, the city has grown around the riversides and the quiet valleys around.

Etymology[]

The name of the city is highly related to the country's name. During the viking era, norsemen navigators sailed in Southwest Ostland, now Sydostlandby, thinking they had arrived in Iceland, discovering Ostland instead. After they traveled the Styroe Island to the nortwest, they finally found a place to embark back to Norway. They described Ostland as the "eastern land".

In the 9th century, they built the city's main port, Moerkshavet, and named the area the "Northern stat of the Ostland" (Norradelstaten i østlandet) which later evolved into Nordostat. The modern name is a combination of the Ostlandic words Nord-ligk (northern), Ost- (lit. east, in this case referring to the country) and st-at (country).

Geography[]

Extension[]

Nordostat's urban area and its satallite towns constitute the Nordostat county. It is almost totally enclosed between forests and mountainous plains. The city is located on the northeast coast of Ostland Styroe island. Settled in a plain and rich valley east of the Vannfuss River near the northernmost end of the Glimmneset mountains. Ancient tales from the Viking era describe Nordostat as the "promised, lost paradise" between the endless sea and the endless mountain. This is characteristic in the cities located in the Eastern coast of the Styroe island, since the Glimmneset mountain range divides the East coast with the plain Center of the Island,

It limits to the south with the Bjorvinsund county, being divided by the Gronnven forest, where is located the largest wind energy center in the country: the Gronnven Electric Environmental Technology Center (Gronnven Elektronisk-Teknologisk Center). To the north with Norrestjern county, being 34 kilometers away from Haralstat, the county's capital. To the west with the Norwegian sea, part of the Atlantic ocean.

Weather[]

The climate of the city is temperate, continental and humid. On average, it was determined that during the day the maximum temperatures are: 5 to 14 degrees during the spring (March - June), 15 or 26 degrees during the summer months (June to August) and -1 to 13 degrees in autumn. In winter, temperatures hover between -3 and -12 degrees.
