OS86 Version 4 (codenamed Copenfráms) is the fourth version of OS86. It was released to manufacturing on December 2, 1999 and to general availability on April 12, 2000, alongside its server counterpart. It is the last OS86 version to use the old "Version" branding and to support the PowerPC architecture, as it was succeeded by OS86 Desktop 2002, which drops support to old IBM processors.
Mainstream support for Version 4 ended on December 11, 2004, while extended support continued until October 11, 2007. The operating system would continue to receive minor security updates via Marchetann until January 2008.
History[]
Version 4 was announced after the release of Version 3 in 1996, and development began in March 1997. Its first release candidate came out in February 15, 1999.
After countless bugfixes during the release candidate stages, Marchetann officially released Version 4 to manufacturing on December 2, 1999.
The icons for Version 4 were designed by Kuraro Jutsami, and are mostly based on Stephan Mässe's icon designs from the previous OS86 release.
