Police Station is an Mantralian television soap opera. It was first broadcast on MBC One on 4 March 1968 and has since lasted more than 10,000 episodes, making it the longest-running soap opera on Mantralian television.
The series was created by husband-and-wife team Mark and Mary Hutch. It produced by the Mantralian Broadcasting Corporation, it is filmed at The Woodchester Studios in Woodchester, New Ontario. Walter Roberts and Anne Rice starred in the show from its inception to 1999 and 2002, respectively. Adam Sears has played Charles Brandon since 1973, making him the soap opera's longest-running cast member.
Originally, Police Station centered on a police department in an unnamed city. In 1972, the show introduced Port Richard, a fictional London city, as its main setting. Since the early 1980s, the show has centered on the Rochester and Webster families. It also centered on the Trevor family until Eric Trevor was killed off in 2019. While the Clark/Rice family was not a main family, it did play important roles in some episodes.
Police Station has been met with positive reception. In 1988, it won the Daytime Tammy Award for Greatest Soap Opera, and won Greatest Daytime Show twice in 1995 and 2011, respectively. It also won the MAFT Award for Best Soap Opera in 2004.
Conception
Police Station co-creator Mark Hutch got the idea for the show in 1967, when he thought about combing a police drama with a soap opera. Former star Anne Rice (Abigail Rochester) stated in a 2014 interview, "[Mark] Hutch wanted a soap that would be about the police. [He] thought it would make an interesting show."[1]
