History
The US Premier League was founded in 1991, beginning play in December 1991, and was the brainchild of well-known Dallas electronics store owner Rembrandt "The Gizmo Guy" Bracamontes. The first three teams were the Dallas Destroyers F.C., Houston Stars, and Toronto Blizzard.
For the 1995 season, the Boston Beacons joined the league.
In 1997, the league's owners, PSL Soccer Inc., made their initial public offering. Shortly afterwards, The Walt Disney Company purchased a 55% stake in PSL Soccer Inc., and ESPN gained TV rights for the PSL.
Sponsorship
The official game ball is made by Dunlop Sport, while kits are manufactured by Nike. Goals are manufactured by Net World Sports.
Nintendo and Dad's Root Beer are among the league's current sponsors.
