Road Rovers is an action-comedy superhero comic book series produced by British team Opal Squad and based on the 1996-97 Warner Bros. Animation television series of the same name. It was published in various countries (mainly by Egmont Group) from 1998 until sometime in the 2000's and was serialized in MegaKidz magazine, later being reprinted in trade paperback format.
Summary and format[]
Although it includes a modified retelling of the series' first episode "Let's Hit the Road" in its first issue, the comic consists almost exclusively of original plotlines, with new Road Rovers of other nationalities eventually being introduced and incorporated into the main cast.
Its humour has been noted to be considerably more witty than that of the series on which it's based, mainly avoiding use of wordplay (to make translation into other languages significantly easier) and even employs a more kid-friendly version of innuendos and gallows humor, especially considering the comic was written in Great Britain.
