Sheila Bowyer Williams (born April 11, 1976 in South Bend, Indiana) is an American stage actress.

Biography[]

Sheila Bowyer Williams was born in South Bend, Indiana, the daughter of Tamitha Williams and Joseph Williams. She is the 4th out of 8 children. She graduated in 1994 with honors from Washington High School in South Bend and enrolled in the University of Notre Dame, where she participated in a version of Romper Room as "Mrs. Sheila" for the university's WNDU-TV.

In 1997, while working for General Electric, Williams began teaching in an acting school for children at the EUE/Screen Gems Studios in Wilmington, North Carolina. Josh Teare, a local casting director, had asked Williams to do a role in the "Weird Al" Yankovic TV movie Another One Rides the Bus being filmed in Wilmington. She ended up being cast in a minor role as a "mailwoman".

In December 1999, a fax came in from Josh Teare asking for a performer to play the role of Basil Stag Hare in a national stage tour entitled Redwall - The Live Show. Williams was unsure about being in a costume, having no prior experience in the field. She requested viewing copies of the first few episodes of Redwall from Nelvana in order to get into the role.

After two auditions, she was passed over for a taller man. He ended up being unable to handle being in the costume, so Teare called Williams and asked if she was still interested in performing Basil. Williams calmly accepted the role.

Williams stated in a interview that she can't see herself playing anyone other than Basil, because of a "special bond" she has with him.
