History[]

The coaster was originally scheduled to open May 1st, 1999, but due to the opening of Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America and Monstar at Carwardine Colony, along with the Kentucky Derby and the premiere of SpongeBob SquarePants, the opening was pushed to May 31st, 1999.

This is very technically not a giga coaster, as the drop is only 285 feet tall.

In 2022, Goliath was repainted from it's original orange and blue color scheme to a black and orange color scheme to avoid confusion with Titan.

Layout[]

The coaster starts with a 315 ft lift that takes a rather long time to get up. Because of the coaster's tall height, it uses two chain lifts just for the 1 lift hill, just like Steel Dragon 2000 at Nagashima Spa Land would later have. The coaster then drops 285 feet.

  • On May 23, 2010, a 51-year-old man was found unconscious after riding the coaster. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The official cause of death was that he had suffered a heart attack during a ride, and later medical reports revealed he had a pre-existing heart condition.
  • On August 20, 2021, a wheel sheared off of one of the trains during the first half of the ride. The train was pulled into the mid-brake run where the ride was shut down, and riders were rescued by firefighters 40 minutes later. No one was injured. The ride was shut down until October 2nd, while the car that the wheel sheared off from was fixed.

Trivia[]

  • The coaster originally had fun facts signs every 21 feet up the lift, but those were removed in 2004 due to excessive fading.
  • This was the first roller coaster with the "Goliath" name in the Six Flags chain.
  • Initially the D.H. Morgan trains had 8 cars per train. For unknown reasons, each train had 1 car removed in 2006.
