Takenaga "Tagi" Miori[1] (born October 20, 1972) is a Canadian voice actor and author. He is best known for voicing Tommy in multiple Mole Miner projects and voicing Pac-Man in Pac-Man Adventures.

Early life[]

Tagi was born a Nisei Japanese-Canadian in Calgary, Alberta. He is the son of Shigeru Miori, a teacher at a hoshū jugyō kō school in Calgary; and Mitsuki Miori, a singer-songwriter. He attended Bishop Carroll High School, graduating in 1991.

He studied theatre at Mount Royal University, where he was discovered by a talent agent midway through his course. He became a professional actor in 1994, living in an attic apartment near the Calgary Stampede grounds. Miori joked that his favorite pastime was "getting animal rights activists arrested or at least chased away during Stampede season". Miori made a living with walk-on roles in Calgary-based productions such as Honey, I Shrunk the Kids: The TV Show. He moved to Vancouver in mid-1998 to further his career.

Career[]

In 2000, he auditioned for Mole Miner, thinking it was another live-action role. In a call-back conversation, talent coordinator Joanne Barbara Slaveykov told him "You realize that you're voicing a grumpy rabbit, right?" In a later audition, he developed Tommy's signature style of voice and his catchphrase. Slaveykov stated in an interview with XYZ News that "out of the 103 people that auditioned for Tommy, Tagi was the most energetic and wild". Miori called the voice recording process "pretty bizarre" and likened it to "acting inside one of those 'record yourself singing' booths you'd find in low-end megamalls". Since then, Miori has performed for several animated projects, including works with otherwise American cast members.
