The Adventures of "Weird Al" Yankovic and Miku Hatsune

The Adventures of "Weird Al" Yankovic and Miku Hatsune (Al and Miku in the UK and Japan) is an American independent animated film. It was released on May 18, 2012 in the USA, and May 20 in other countries. It was advertised as a "(ridiculous) Fanfiction come to life", and features several prominent fanfic cliches. (including a dedicated Mary Sue character)

Synopsis

The story follows "Weird Al" Yankovic, who downloads Vocaloid software and gets zapped into his computer. There, he meets Miku and a clone of himself (named Inner Al, resembles his 1980's look), who take him through a computer world controlled by a dark overlord named Kayawss.(pronounced chaos) With a little help from some newfound friends, they must defeat it using the only reasonable option - Hold a concert.  Along with it's main players, it features guest appearences from several other groups such as Devo, AKB48, and Electric Light Orchestra.

Reception

The film was split among critics. One negative review for Metacritic read:

“	There is such a thing as fan fuel - fanfic bait. It is often accidental when making a film. However, Al and Miku does this DELIBERATELY. It only exists to feed the fans' insane minds. It WANTS fans to write awful cringe on a paper and submit it to the web. It's intolerable.	„

Rotten Tomatoes gave the film a 58% "Rotten" rating. In sharp contrast, the audience rating is a surprising 82%.
