At 03:13 on 18 January 2002, Darson's daughter Liberty was born. Until Liberty turned 2, Darson would check on Liberty every night to make sure his rival, French singer Alexandre Thomas, had not snuck in and killed or kidnapped the baby. Even after he stopped checking on Liberty since he knew she was okay, Darson would often still have sleepless nights. He had reported on 6 January 2004 that he had a nightmare that Thomas had murdered Liberty, and is grateful he couldn't track them down.
