The VR Buddy is a virtual reality headset developed and manufactured by Theorysonic for Portosic Touch and TheoryPhone. It was released in 2013.


The VR Buddy is designed to work with Theorysonic’s flagship smartphones and all-purpose handheld PCs. Currently supported are Portosic Touch X3, Portosic Touch X4, Portosic Touch X5, Portosic Touch Go, Portosic Touch Z1, TheoryPhone X3, TheoryPhone X4, TheoryPhone X5, TheoryPhone X6, TheoryPhone Go, TheoryPhone Z1, TheoryPhone Z1+, TheoryPhone Z2e, TheoryPhone Z2, TheoryPhone Z2+, and Theorysonic Swift.


Hardware editions

The first edition of VR Buddy was released on June 27, 2013. This version is the replica of the original 32-bit VR Buddy game console and it was only compatible with TheoryPhone X3, TheoryPhone X4, and Portosic Touch X3.


As of 2019, there were over 500 apps available for the VR Buddy on the TheoryShop, which is more than eight times an entire library of the original VR Buddy console. Uses of the VR Buddy currently include viewing of 360° images, from the 360° view by Getty Images app. This allowed the viewing of spherical content from Getty’s archives and features stills from the World Cup, Cannes Film Festival, and Abeta Film Festival amongst much more.
