As most of us know, back in 1995, Sega was faced with a situation, of picking between Virtua Fighter and Eternal Champions. in the end, they axed the latter. now imagine. what if they axed the former instead.

1990's

1995

  • Mid 1995: Sega Chooses to axe Virtua Fighter in favor of Eternal Champions.
  • A day after: Yu Suzuki and several other officials at Sega resign from the company in protest(some however will return to work for Sega with the passsage of time)
  • Autumn 1995: Eternal Champions: The Final Chapter is going into troubled productions, as a result. Sega of Japan pressures Sega of America and Michael Latham to remake the game from scratch as a competitive 3D fighting game.
  • Late 1995: Yu Suzuki is aproached by Tecmo and Tomonobu Itakagi, and is asked by them if he wants to help them on their upcoming fighting game called Dead or Alive. to which he agrees.

1996

  • Early 1996: Sega of Japan(afraid of losing more officials and money) is reconsidering their strategy and plan on making a 64-Bit add-on for the Sega Saturn, while patching things up with their slowly returning former company officials.
  • Mid 1996: Trip Hawkins is aproached by Bill Gates. the latter is interested in entering the console market on Microsoft's behalf while the former's company is in a financial struggle.
  • E3:
    • Microsoft announce their 1st console, the Xbox. With a release date of Christmas Eve 1997.
  • July 1996: Capcom release Star Wars - Episode 1: The Final Crusade for the Arcades.
  • Mid-To Late 1996: Ed Logg is aproached by Richard Miller. The latter is trying to test out his Project X(which would later become the Nuon) technology while the former is trying to save Atari from facing bankruptcy. while also working on a true 64-Bit add-on for the Jaguar
  • September 1996: Capcom and Arika merge their two new upcoming Street Fighter projects to one project called Street Fighter III, with a release date of February 1997.
  • 26 November 1996: Dead or Alive is released for the Sega Model 3 Arcade Board. The game would feature open stages and realistic combat(similar to Virtua Fighter)
  • 1996: X-Perts is released for the Sega 32X

1997

  • 4 February 1997: Capcom release Street Fighter III for the Arcades.
